Back in October 2014 I wrote about Montreal based trend forecasting group “Logomachy” and their 34 page manifesto “Mass Digital Nomadism: Unlocking New Options for the Information Age”, which outlines the benefits to freelancers of giving up traditional homes in favour of smaller mobile options.

We can’t all be born James Tiberius Kirk. So in my opinion, it’s better to let the leaders lead and handle the pressures and responsibility of managing other people’s lives.

A year is a long time in technology. But this last 12 months has seen a truly crazy progression in terms of technology application and corporate direction and-. Google has become 2010 Microsoft that’s all that matters!

Freelancing is something I’ve been doing for a while now, and I’ve realised that it’s a hotbed of sin. Yes, really. I’ve also reached the conclusion that during this time I’ve committed all of the Freelancing Deadly Sins…

As the freelance economy grows ever larger, so to, do the cracks in our social support systems.

I’m starting to feel bad for poor old “Traditional industry/sector” everywhere he goes, there’s another Uber, Netflix or Nest disrupting how he used to get things done.

So I’m enjoying a few drinks with my fellow freelancers, it’s a party for the end of 2014 and hopes for 2015. In between the jokes (many at the expense of traditional employment) I was often asked many wonderful and interesting things by fellow freelancers, but I was taken aback by one such question asked by a mother of 2 and recently turned freelancer.

Having spent the majority of my time glued to one screen or another as if guided by some divine force, perhaps it’s time to step back from the digital divide and re-assess just how much of my life is being leeched by the internet.

Being asked what you do for a living isn’t uncommon when you network a lot, but lately I’ve had to stop and think about my answer more and more.
